We have always been hesitant to travel through the Zion National Park area on our road trips to Utah because, like most National Parks, Zion isn’t exactly “dog-friendly.” On our last trip we decided we wanted to give it a go, and we stayed at the pet-friendly Zion White Bison. Located just miles from the west entrance of the park, we used this as our basecamp to drive through the park and explore and all the dog friendly places on each side of the entrance. All I can say is – I am sure glad we finally decided to go and while there were not many dog-friendly activities within the park - there are PLENTY right outside.

We stayed in a pet-friendly Cliff Dwelling at Zion White Bison and we loved it.  Patterned after ancient Anasazi kivas, our dog-friendly Cliff Dwelling had the most inviting and colorful interior, and was outfitted with with a king size bed, living room area with a couch and tv, a full kitchen, bathroom and an upstairs deck complete with a dining table and fire pit, a grill and our own PRIVATE HOT TUB facing the beautiful mesa’s and canyons all around us!

Zion White Bison was rated one of the top five clamping resorts in America they have pet-friendly Covered Wagons, Tipis and Cliff Dwellings and I already can’t wait to plan a trip back! While Zion National Park itself doesn’t have many pet friendly trails, the drive through the park alone is spectacular and there are SO MANY dog friendly adventures on both sides of the park.

Some of these places include:

Snow Canyon State Park - (please note the park does require an entrance fee for most trails) We loved how red the rock was all over this park and we had the best time checking out the countless trails, caves, petrified sand dunes, petroglyphs and mini slot canyons.

Pink Coral Sand Dunes State Park - (entry fee required) These dunes are estimated to be 10,000 to 15,000 years old and you can rent ATV’s or sand boards here to ride around the dunes, but we just enjoyed hiking around and playing in the sand!

Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness / Kanab area - this 112,500-acre wilderness area is loaded with hikes, slot canyons, rock formations and painted hills and the options for dog-friendly adventure are endless! It was a bit wet and the roads were a bit washed out and the canyons were flooded when we visited so we had to make some last minute plan changes - but there is no shortage of things to do here!

After spending the days exploring we would head back to our cliff dwelling and watch the sun set from our rooftop hot tub. The Zion White Bison property is loaded with character and even has its own herd of white bison (a calf was born two days after we left ) for you to visit as well. The white bison is an extremely rare & sacred animal and just a generation ago, one out of 10 million bison were born white. Currently, it is estimated that one out of a million is white. The resort aims to be a sanctuary for these sacred animals and they were so fun to spend time with!

If you are looking to check out Zion and the surrounding area (with or without your pets) I HIGHLY recommend staying in one of the unique Covered Wagons, Tipi’s or Cliff Dwellings! Use code GLAMP10 for 10% off
