Destination Monterey Bay, The Sanctuary Beach Resort
Sanc·tu·ar·y | Noun | a place of refuge and protection.
And let me just tell you, we found ours at The Sanctuary Beach Resort - it is aptly named as it truly feels like a place of refuge. It was laid-back, beachfront luxury at its finest, and oh my was it dog friendly!
Located just north of Monterey Bay, the Sanctuary is close enough for you to explore everything Moneterey has to offer, cruise to Carmel-by-the-Sea, or check out Big Sur, but I recommend just staying put and enjoying everything right in, and outside, your tastefully decorated room.
Here are just a handful of the things we loved:
+ waking up to the crashing waves right outside our suite door.
+ Morning breakfast delivered to our room in the cutest picnic basket for us to enjoy while listening to the waves crash.
+ the dog “stick library,” for the dogs to grab a stick to take to the beach.
+ the in-room welcome for the dogs - from homemade treats, bowls with their names on them, a comfy dog bed and a “pawtio” menu to order dog-friendly room service - every ounce of being in the room makes the dogs feel pampered as we felt.
+ the sunset happy hour sessions and DELICIOUS dinner at the onsite @saltwood kitchen - offering seasonal (dog and human) menus, with locally sourced ingredients and a gorgeous dog-friendly dining experience where you can watch your order being cooked over the coolest wood fired grill! (Fun fact: Arlo and Pepper ordered the best meals they have ever eaten in their lives).
+ nightly beach bonfires to enjoy the sunset and stay warm.
+ the staff - truly a top notch experience here! Everyone we met from check-in to check-out made us feel like we were close friends and not just guests.
+ the hand-drawn welcome sign at check-in of the dogs and a “bone-buffet” for the dogs to grab a treat before going to the room.
I can say without hesitating that The Sanctuary Beach Resort was a step above dog-friendly, they made sure the dogs felt as welcomed as humans without sacrificing an ounce of human amenities along the way. Truly a place every dog and human need to enjoy and I highly recommend adding it to your travel list! You will NOT be disappointed (and neither will your dogs)! #dogfriendly
